Score Chic European Finds at the New MellieJ Showroom

Melanie Flood, owner of MellieJ Showroom, in the Mission.

MellieJ is one of those inspiring little discoveries in the Mission District that will remind you why it’s cool to live in SF. Open typically to industry buyers by appointment only, the new fashion showroom owned by Nob Hill resident Melanie Flood is like a treasure trove of interesting European brands you’ve never heard of.

Chiffon tiered dress by Tofu, a brand launched in 2005 in Covent Garden, London.

On Nov. 6 and 7 (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.), Flood will open her showroom to the public for her biannual sample sale. You won’t want to miss the chance to dig through racks of women’s wear and accessories, ranging from London-based Tofu’s colorful dresses with whimsical embellishments to the minimalist separates of Eluise (of Copenhagen) in muted, neutral palettes.

A collection of frothy party frocks by Valerie, of Stockholm, Sweden. All photography by Amy Mackowski.

If you’re a sample size, you’re likely to score a piece here that no one else has. For the full scoop on MellieJ, check out the feature I wrote here in this Sunday’s San Francisco Chronicle.
