What Prabal Gurung Thinks of Being Part of a Crop of Asian-Am Talent

It was a brief meeting on Friday, but one that confirmed my suspicions that Prabal Gurung is both a smart and a nice guy. The New York-based designer was making a brief appearance at Neiman Marcus San Francisco to preview his Spring 2011 line, and with all the press he’s been getting having recently dressed First Lady Michelle Obama for a White House dinner—along with his usual bevy of celebrity A-listers – I decided to do a drive-by to talk shop with the designer.

In spite of a packed morning of press interviews (I’m told he did a total of 11, not including mine), and the cabal of ladies who lunch swirling around to take photos with him, he took time out to thoughtfully answer a couple of my burning questions.

Macy’s Passport Rewind: Macy Gray, Tracy Reese, and Guys in Undies

Macy’s Passport was a whole different show this year, largely due to its format and venue change from Fort Mason to the Orpheum Theater, and an even bigger focus on the live music and dance elements, rather than the fashion.

Are there any kindred spirits out there who obsess over  Bravo’s reality TV series “The Rachael Zoe Project?” While half the time I’m glued to the tube shaking my head thinking “I cannot believe she said/did/wore that,” I also can’t help but drool over the countless racks of designer clothes and shoes that show up in every episode, and the endless parade of celebrities. It’s eye candy— at its finest.

Get Katy Perry’s Pinup Glam Look

You’d be hard-pressed to open up a magazine, turn on the radio, or switch on the TV, for that matter, without seeing or hearing about pop princess Katy Perry. The media darling is everywhere, including the San Francisco Chronicle, where I wrote a story about Perry’s vintage-inspired style and put together a more affordable look using her Moschino Cheap & Chic cherry-print dress as inspiration. Check out the Style story here on sfgate.com, and be sure to look out for more of my celeb fashion reports for the Chronicle on Lauren Conrad and Rachel Zoe this coming Sunday!
